Descripción

CRYBG1 is a protein containing the beta-gamma crystallin domain, which is characteristic of structural proteins involved in lens transparency and light refraction in the eye. However, CRYBG1 is expressed beyond the lens, in tissues like muscle and connective tissue, where it is believed to play a role in cytoskeletal organization and cellular stress response. It interacts with molecular chaperones, potentially helping maintain protein stability under stress conditions. Dysregulation of CRYBG1 has been linked to muscle degeneration, fibrosis, and other diseases involving cytoskeletal abnormalities. Emerging evidence also suggests it might have a role in modulating cellular responses to oxidative stress, but further studies are needed to confirm its precise biological and pathological roles.
