Background
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, spermatogenic (GAPDHS), is a testis-specific isoform of GAPDH, playing an essential role in energy metabolism during spermatogenesis. Its activity ensures adequate ATP production required for sperm motility, making it critical for male fertility. GAPDHS is structurally adapted to function in the flagellum of sperm cells, and mutations in this isoform have been associated with impaired sperm motility and infertility.
