Descripción

CARD9 is a key protein in the immune response, particularly in the signaling pathways of innate immunity. It is involved in activating the NF-κB signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in inflammation and immune cell activation. CARD9 acts as an adaptor protein that connects pattern recognition receptors, such as C-type lectin receptors (CLRs), to downstream signaling pathways. This enables the recognition of microbial pathogens and triggers an immune response. Specifically, CARD9 is important in the recognition of fungal and bacterial infections, where it contributes to the activation of inflammatory cytokines and the recruitment of immune cells. Mutations or deficiencies in CARD9 can lead to immune system dysfunctions, including increased susceptibility to fungal infections and certain autoimmune diseases. CARD9 has therefore emerged as a critical target for understanding and potentially treating immune-related disorders and infections.
