Descripción

Microfibril Associated Protein 5 (MFAP5), also known as MAGP-2, is another extracellular matrix protein associated with microfibrils. MFAP5 is involved in maintaining the structural integrity of elastic fibers and modulating cell-matrix interactions. It plays a significant role in angiogenesis, influencing endothelial cell adhesion, migration, and survival. MFAP5 has been linked to tumor progression and metastasis, particularly in ovarian and other cancers, where it contributes to a pro-tumorigenic microenvironment. Elevated levels of MFAP5 are associated with poor prognosis in cancer due to its role in promoting angiogenesis and remodeling of the extracellular matrix. MFAP5 is also implicated in fibrotic diseases, where it affects tissue stiffness and pathological remodeling.
