Descripción
Myomesin 2 (MYOM2), also known as M-protein, is another crucial component of the M-band in sarcomeres, predominantly expressed in fast-twitch muscle fibers and the myocardium. Similar to MYOM1, MYOM2 contributes to the structural stability of the sarcomere by connecting thick myosin filaments and linking them to the giant protein titin. This interaction supports the alignment of sarcomeric filaments and ensures efficient force transmission during high-speed or high-force muscle contractions. MYOM2's specific expression pattern and functional importance make it a vital player in muscle performance and adaptation to physiological stress.
