Descripción
unc-5 netrin receptor B (UNC5B) acts as a receptor for netrin-1, orchestrating key cellular processes like axonal guidance and vascular development. UNC5B ensures proper vascular and neuronal organization by transmitting repellent cues that direct cellular movements. In endothelial cells, UNC5B is vital for angiogenesis, controlling endothelial migration and sprouting. Beyond developmental contexts, UNC5B is implicated in tumor suppression through apoptosis activation in netrin-1’s absence, akin to its role as a dependence receptor. Dysregulation of UNC5B has been linked to pathological angiogenesis and malignancies, highlighting its dual importance in both developmental and pathological processes.
