Descripción

Peroxidasin (PXDN) is a unique extracellular matrix enzyme belonging to the peroxidase family, which includes well-known enzymes like myeloperoxidase and thyroid peroxidase. This enzyme plays a crucial role in various biological processes, primarily related to the formation and maintenance of extracellular matrices, tissue development, and oxidative stress responses. PXDN is encoded by the PXDN gene located on chromosome 2p25 in humans. The importance of PXDN is highlighted by its involvement in several physiological and pathological conditions, including basement membrane formation, angiogenesis, wound healing, and certain diseases like cancer and fibrosis.
