Descripción
SIGLEC8 is an inhibitory receptor expressed mainly on eosinophils, mast cells, and basophils. It binds selectively to 6′-sulfated sialyl Lewis X and related glycan ligands, regulating inflammatory responses in allergic diseases. Activation of SIGLEC8 leads to eosinophil apoptosis and inhibition of mast cell degranulation, making it an attractive therapeutic target for asthma and eosinophilic disorders. Its function is mediated through ITIMs, which dampen cell activation pathways. SIGLEC8 is also implicated in maintaining immune homeostasis in tissues and resolving allergic inflammation.
