Descripción

ADAD2 is another testis-specific protein within the adenosine deaminase domain-containing family, contributing to RNA metabolism during male germ cell development. It is involved in RNA binding and is hypothesized to regulate mRNA stability and translation during spermatogenesis. ADAD2 plays a key role in supporting the differentiation of spermatocytes and the formation of mature sperm cells. Like ADAD1, ADAD2 contains a conserved adenosine deaminase domain but does not exhibit classical enzymatic activity, suggesting its primary role lies in RNA binding and post-transcriptional regulation. Alterations in ADAD2 expression have been associated with defects in spermatogenesis and reduced male fertility. Its restricted expression pattern highlights its critical role in the development of the male reproductive system and the maintenance of germ cell integrity.
