Descripción
ADAMTSL5 is an extracellular protein that regulates ECM structure and fibrillin microfibril assembly. It is particularly notable for its involvement in cartilage biology and has been identified as a key factor in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. ADAMTSL5 interacts with cartilage ECM components such as aggrecan and modulates TGF-β signaling pathways, which influence cartilage homeostasis. Studies have shown that ADAMTSL5 expression increases in osteoarthritic cartilage, suggesting its role in disease progression. Its regulatory function in ECM integrity highlights its importance in skeletal and joint health, making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in degenerative joint diseases.
