Descripción
Interferon Alpha 4 (IFNA4) is another member of the type I interferon family that contributes to the antiviral immune response. While less characterized than IFNA1 and IFNA2, IFNA4 exhibits similar functional properties, including activation of the IFNAR pathway and induction of interferon-stimulated genes that inhibit viral replication and modulate the immune response. Studies suggest that IFNA4 may have unique regulatory functions or tissue-specific roles within the broader interferon response. Its expression and functional significance may vary depending on the type of infection or immune challenge. As with other type I interferons, IFNA4's dysregulation could contribute to autoimmune conditions, and understanding its precise role in health and disease remains an area of ongoing research.
